According to CoinTelegraph:

Gala Games Discusses Web3 Integration in AMA Session

Gala Games explored the future of Web3 during a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) session, emphasizing that its success hinges on seamless integration with Web2, where gamers make no distinction between the two. This discussion delved into various perspectives on reshaping user experiences in the Web3 realm, highlighting the transformative potential of such integration.

The most recent participant on Cointelegraph’s live Ask Me Anything (AMA) show, Jason Brink from Gala Games, a Web3 gaming platform, discussed present challenges within GameFi and innovative solutions. Here is a summary of the interview:

“I believe that Web3 will eventually fade away, becoming a non-issue in the broader sense. As we transition from the current emergence phase, Web3 will be confined to a small group of people who coined the term.

Gamers do not perceive the difference between Web2 and Web3 games. They are indifferent to the so-called Web3 ethos, which holds significance for crypto enthusiasts. The industry will thrive when these categories converge, resulting in amazing games where users own their assets. Blockchain will be part of the technology layer, but not a focal point for the average user.

The primary challenge in onboarding new users to Web3 arises when they encounter something unfamiliar. In a Web2 game, downloading from Steam allows instant gameplay with a few clicks. However, in Web3, there is substantial friction. Gala Games is addressing this issue to make blockchain interaction seamless unless the user chooses otherwise.

The focus is on creating enjoyable gaming experiences. Initially, playing Web3 games felt different and lacked appeal, especially to those accustomed to triple-A games. Compelling games that engage users must precede discussions on game tokenomics and economic structures.

Another challenge is the unwelcoming nature of the Web3 community. Gala Games collaborates with universities to establish Web3 initiatives, fostering a welcoming environment without high friction. This initiative aims to make a significant difference in the future.

We introduced REP, a Web3-specific social media platform, addressing the fragmentation and dominance of existing options. REP provides control over data and self-sovereignty, operating on our Gala chain. Gala tokens cover gas fees across the chain.

REP offers standard social media features and incorporates augmented reality elements, akin to Pokemon Go. Users can engage in both the real world and social media by placing chests or markers for others to discover.

Users can limit the visibility of REP posts to specific areas, creating personalized social networks. Gala Friends, Gala’s bespoke community, is the first social network launching on Gala and is expected to fully launch as an open MVP in the next 3 months.

Many Web3 projects approach user bases from a blockchain perspective. Gala Games, however, started by addressing the needs of Web2-style games and supporting a large user base. Team members with experience in mass live games like Farmville contribute to this perspective.

The construction of the Gala Node ecosystem differs as well. Initially built on another blockchain, REP faced storage issues, leading to the development of an innovative Gala node network and protocol. This allows REP to deploy its own node licenses, focusing on storage for social media content. The Gala network currently has about 37,000 nodes.

Plans include launching the Gala Chain Academy to educate people on building atop the Gala Chain. Emphasizing decentralization and collaboration is crucial for long-term success in creating a broadly decentralized ecosystem. Gala Games is open to new games joining the ecosystem.”
