FIFA Unveils NFT Collection During the 2023 Club World Cup

FIFA, the governing body for global soccer tournaments, has announced plans to launch its exclusive collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in collaboration with the blockchain company Modex ahead of the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

The announcement on December 11th revealed that the initial set of 100 NFTs will be launched on December 15th, offering a chance to acquire tickets for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. Additionally, 900 more digital collectibles will be released this month on the Polygon network and OpenSea, showcasing memorable moments from the ongoing tournament and digital versions of collectible items.

“Scheduled to commence in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 12, the FIFA Club World Cup features seven of the world’s top football teams. All champions from FIFA’s six confederations are participating,” FIFA stated. These NFTs will be available on FIFA’s dedicated platform, FIFA+ Collect, which was introduced in September 2022 and operates using Algorand’s technology.

“Digital collectibles expand the ways fans can engage with their favorite players, teams, and the sport they love, and we’re proud to assist FIFA in achieving this objective,” commented Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex.

Since its inception, the FIFA+ Collect platform has launched 11 NFT collections, amassing 909,255 digital collectibles held by 16,448 individuals. The platform has generated a combined trading volume of $2.4 million in both primary and secondary NFT markets. However, FIFA+ Collect Info cautions, ”Mint Volume can be misleading as FIFA+ Collect Info cannot distinguish the packs obtained for free in challenges from the packs purchased with USDC.”
