Cryptocurrency Trusts Benefit from Google’s Policy Update
Cryptocurrency trusts will now be featured in advertisements starting at the end of January, following a recent update to Google’s advertising policy. This change comes at a strategic time, coinciding with the anticipated US approval of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) during the same period.
Scheduled for implementation on January 29, 2024, these adjustments aim to improve user access to reliable information while protecting them from potential risks associated with cryptocurrency investments. The revised policy primarily focuses on advertisers promoting Cryptocurrency Coin Trusts within the United States.
In a December 6 update to its policy log, Google announced an upcoming amendment to its ad policy related to cryptocurrencies and associated products, which will become effective on January 29, 2024. This change will allow ads from “advertisers offering Cryptocurrency Coin Trusts targeting the United States.”
Cryptocurrency coin trusts were mentioned as examples of “financial products that enable investors to trade shares in trusts holding large pools of digital currency,” likely including ETFs.
Google stressed, “as a reminder, we expect all advertisers to comply with the local laws for any area that their ads target. This policy will apply globally to all accounts that advertise these products.”
Advertisers interested in promoting crypto trust must acquire certification from Google. This involves holding the relevant license from the appropriate local authority and ensuring that “their products, landing pages, and ads comply with all local legal requirements of the country or region they seek certification for.”
Previously, Google revised its policies regarding advertising blockchain-based games involving Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Under the updated policy, ads for NFT games without gambling-related content are permitted. However, advertisers must meet specific criteria and obtain certification to display these ads.
January is poised to be a significant month in the cryptocurrency space.
